I know when we had to send H's life story in documents they came the day after his passport came.  I know my birth cert came separately too.  So I'd give it a few days.

They send the document separately for security purposed.  Your marriage certificate should arrive a day or 2 later.

I didn't change my name, but I recently applied for a passport so that DH and I can go to Italy (my old passport was a kid's passport, so in order to get a new one I had to go through the process all over again). Like PPs have said, the documents come in 2 separate envelopes, usually about a day apart. The guy at town hall told me about this when I applied because he said that a lot of people freak out when the get their passport but not their birth certificates back.

my new passport came today too!!! lol and i also didn't receive my marriage license back either- i know when we got our passports last year they mailed the birth certs back sep. so i wouldn't stress it will prob come in the next week or so!

You might want to hurry with furloughs starting in July. 

 

ETA: actually in not sure if they are on furlough or not. July is the start of the DoD furloughs.

we got our passports July 5th so i had up till then a year later to change my name without having to pay!!! thats why i was rushed to do it - i didnt start changing my name on everything till about Feb! lol i didnt want to have to pay- "i think" i have changed my name on everything now, but who knows something will prob pop up down the road!

oh and p.s. did you know when you get married you get a discount on car insurance? i didn't !!! mine went down $20 a month! and if i send a copy of my marriage licence my insurance company will credit from the time we got married till i found out about the discount! H called his insurance today and his went down $20 a month too!

Sure enough, I got the envelope with my marriage certificate in today's mail! And, weirdly, they sent back my old passport as well. Not sure what to do with it now.

 If you're willing to pay a little extra, it's worth it to get your application expedited. I got mine back in less than two weeks!

Since we're not leaving for Italy until October, I didn't pay for an expedited passport. I'm glad I didn't because I received my passport in less than 2 weeks anyway. I was shocked that it came that quickly, especially with sequestration and government furloughs happening.

I didn't have a passport, and had to apply for a new one.  They took my birth certificate, and sent it back separately.
