How do you book your travel?
We've only gone on cruises together, visited family or did little trips to Maine and Connecticut. We want to visit Texas this summer and not sure if we should talk to our travel agent who books our cruises or wing it and do an online package for air, hotel and car.
Any advice would be grand.
sometimes all you really need in life is a pink wig.
Re: How do you book your travel?
We like to do our own research and come up with prices then we'll talk to a travel agent. For our honeymoon, the travel agent was able to get a better price than we could. I also liked having a point of contact in case of an issue for such a large trip. We got travel insurance through her as well. For a trip to Vegas and California, we found it was cheaper to book ourselves piecemeal and then everything could be canceled other than airfare if there was a problem (so the cost of the airfare wouldn't have been worth paying insurance to us). For Disney trips we've used Small World Vacations. It's not cheaper, but we seem to always get our requests granted and they continue to check if any new discounts come available.
For a trip somewhere new, I would price it myself and then talk to the travel agent and see which deal is better. Can't hurt either way
***Congratulations to my TTCAL buddy Roxyttandme!! It's a GIRL!! Charlotte arrived on 9/29!!!!***
PGaL/PAL Always Welcome!!
Lately we've been booking all our own things. We rent a house through Homeaway.com, book flights through Jetblue and rent a car through DHs USAA account. That's what has been the cheapest for the kind of vacations we've been doing in recent years.
Before kids when we did resorts and such we found the best prices though Expedia or the other online travel websites. I've never been a fan travel agents.

I'm in the same boat as Rblucy. I always do online research and then go see my travel agent and see if she can get a better price. She ALWAYS does. I don't understand it, but its true. If there are ever any issues before or during our vacation I call her and she takes care of everything which is wonderful.
Once I booked flights to Vegas for DH and I thru Expedia. We chose seats together when we booked, but when we checked on for our flight they fave us seats no where near each other in the plane. I wouldn't have cared but DH is a horrible flier and flipped when he found out. Luckily someone was willing to switch seats with him do he could be next to me. Apparently Expedia and other websites have disclaimers that allow them to change certain parts of your reservation without notifying you ahead of time so just be careful.
Thanks gals. I will price on line and talk to my lady.
E we are going to Houston in August. I am prepared for the heat. It is the best time for use to travel since J's business will be slow.
