SCOTUS - Human genes not patentable

It was unanimous!  Seems on trend with this board since we're all agreeing on stuff lately :)  Anyone want to discuss?

  • First, thanks for the news tip...I didn't know this was being voted upon.

    I think it makes sense the way the S.C. ruled (cannot patent naturally occurring materials/substances). And, I do agree.

    Thomas' notes did state, however, that synthetically created DNA could be patented as it is not naturally occuring, which still gives the medical/genetics/scientific community some protections. This I also agree with.
