The cat is bouncing off the walls!
Hi everyone!
I have an orange tabby that just turned one in April. She is the most hyper cat I have ever owned in my life! We adopted her at 6 weeks old and I think she had been outdoor/indoor. Here she is indoors only because we have an apartment. She runs back and forth across the entire apartment, bounces off furniture and window sills, and makes a racket with the blinds. It goes beyond waking us up in the morning to feed her. We usually get woken up every few hours at night. We love her dearly but she is driving us crazy. Any ideas to get miss Dot to calm down?
Re: The cat is bouncing off the walls!
Our Russian Blue was the same way, and he was a climber too. He'd be jumping into things, around things and climbing the drapes and screens any chance he got. He's calmed down considerably now that he's about 4, (but he can play and pounce for hours if he sees you picking up a toy) but he was a handful for the first couple of years (He was my 2nd cat and is the polar opposite of my first one who is super lazy and laid back).
One thing that worked was just spending TONS of time playing with him and getting his energy out. Every day after right work we'd have a 20-30 minute play session. Then, around 8pm, we'd do another long play session followed by a late dinner (supposedly that helps them sleep or something). If H didn't have school or something he'd also play with him for a few minuted in the morning. If you have a way to try to keep him awake and active during the day that can help too, that way he's not so wired and will sleep most of the night.
Good luck!
I am a fan of cats/kittens in pairs for this reason. Ditto the others on more play time. One of my cats was a maniac (and she had 2 other cats to play with), but finally she calmed down around 2 maybe?
My cats are 3 and 4 now and it is heaven.
5 cats. 1 baby.
Don't give up on the harness. She may just need a few more tries to get used to it. Our cat loves it! We started him at about 8 months, and now he loves going outside. Also, have you thought about getting a cat tree? If she loves to climb, she'll love it, and it gives her a high perch.
