Must Do Family Vacations
in Travel
My husband and I are trying to make a list of places we want to travel with our two boys. Though they are young now, we want to prioritize the list. Outside of a Disney experience (already on the books), where would you consider a "must do" destination for families?

I'm looking forward to taking our kids to Maine, specifically Acadia NP, when they are older. I'm thinking at least 6 but maybe 8-10. DH and I went before our son was born and loved it. Also, I've never been to Michigan and want to take the kids on a lake vacation in a couple of years.
Yellowstone, Yosemite, Sequoia, any beach (beaches are fun!), and Disney (of course). Some of my best childhood memories are those of the RV trips we took with my parents, and grandparents sometimes. If you have access to one or could even rent one for a week, so much fun! Camping is great too, but those cross country trips in the RV were awesome.
I agree with all the posts on here so far. My parents kept us out of the theme parks and in the National Parks, and our annual family vacation to new states, cities, and parks was the absolute highlight of my childhood. I fondly look back on all the car trips, hiking, and sites we saw and am now taking my husband to many of the same places I went to as a kid. We did new activities each vacation, like white water rafting, spelunking, rock climbing, ect especially as we got older and more adventurous.
-Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier, Smoky Mountains, Mammoth Caves, Acadia, Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Gettysburg, Arches, Sequoia, Yosemite, Niagara Falls...just to name a few.
I can only promise you that it is a great investment of time and money and your kids will have many cherished memories from these vacations. If you do go down the National Park route, get the "Passport" book for each kid, so every new place they go they can get stamped in the appropriate section/page. Filling it up becomes a source of pride!
This is what we have on our list of places to go with the kids
1. Disney. Done it once already and will probably go every 4-5 years
2. D.C when they are older
3. Colonial Willamsburg
4. Hershey, Pennsylvania.
5. Silver Dollar City in Branson. It's only 3 hours away but truly is a fantastic theme park.
6. New York City
7. Yellowstone
I second Hershey park! We went twice when I was younger with my family, and once when I was in college with my friends. It's so much fun and now they have a water rides inside the park!
