Advice on food processors/mixers

I had one of these:

 http://www.braunhousehold.com/global/All-Products/Food-Preparation/hand-blenders/multiquick-5-hand-blender-mr570-patisserie-0x64196736/

and it broke. I need to buy a new food processor and/or stand up mixer.

Which one do you recommend I buy? I love those stand kitchen aid ones, but they are so expensive and I would still need a food processor. Do you have both or have one that works as both things?

Please help, I need to buy this asap!

thanks! :)

Re: Advice on food processors/mixers

  • I have a Kitchenaid Food Processor as well as a stand mixer by Kitchenaid and LOVE them both. They certainly are an investment, but do last for a long time. I have also heard good things about Cuisenart

  • I have a 7 cup Cuisinart Food Processor that I love.  It's large enough for what I need but not giant.  I have the Kitchen Aid Pro Stand Mixer and LOVE it for everything.

  • I have this food processor http://www.crateandbarrel.com/cuisinart-9-cup-food-processor/s304614  and I LOVE it! It's not cheap, but I think a good food processor is an investment since it's such a workhorse. I also have a stand mixer. While they are also wonderful, I'd say if you can only buy one then get a food processor. Most of what you can achieve with a stand mixer can be done with electric beaters.

  • Thanks so much for your responses, what do you use your stand mixer for? I am just wondering if it is worth it...

I use my stand mixer for bread doughs, sweet rolls dough, cookies, etc. I bake a lot so for me, the investment was totally worth it.

  • I use my stand mixer for everything!  It comes in especially handy when I'm making cookies, brownies, cakes, cupcakes for events but it's great for frosting as well.  If you have a bread dough hook you can use it for breads.  I have the pasta maker attachment as well so I use it for making pasta too!

  • I primarily use my stand mixer for baking- batters, bread doughs, etc.  Although I know the Kitchenaid mixer also has attachments you can buy to make pasta, ice cream, etc. It's a great thing to have if you can afford it and if you bake a lot. If you don't bake much, it probably wouldn't see a lot of use.
  • I also love my stand mixer...I use it to whip cream, bake pretty much anything, and make pasta.  I have actually never heard of a mixer/food processor in one...does it do each well?  I have a smallish cuisinart to do pestos, pulverize various things, and make sauces...it works great for what I need!

  • Thanks so much! I am going to wait for a sale on the Kitchenaid and might use the baby bullet as a food processor for now. :)
