Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. In addition, The Nest community member's avatars will be replaced with generic default avatars. If you wish to revert to your original avatar, you will need to re-upload it via The Nest.

If you have questions about this, please email help@theknot.com.

Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Abbreviations?

As you can see I am new, kinda. Was on the knot for a while of course, but just started into the nest. I don't understand some of ya'lls abbreviations? I know H, MIL, and IL, but I just saw XP and something else like that. I think I know DH and TTC? I can read and get what it means by what is said, but it would be helpfull if someone could just fill in some of the others. (Sorry for the stupid question.)

Thank you.

Re: Abbreviations?

  • I was about to create a post about how much abbreviations piss me off on this site. Is it really that hard for people to type out "HUSBAND" or "IN LAWS" seriously people...how lazy can you folks be? So irritating.

    ummm, sorry?

OP, a lot of them are in the "nest board glossary" near the bottom of the left panel. (http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/blogs/thenestcommunity/pages/the-nest-community-glossary.aspx). If you run across one that's not in there or the one for the bump (below it), feel free to ask.

It's annoying. Am I not allowed to be annoyed? I think people should take the extra 1/2 a second to actually type out the words rather than confusing everyone who doesn't read thenest index. Just type people!

  • Thank you. :)

You're certainly welcome to be annoyed but that attitude and calling everyone on here lazy right off the bat is not going to make this community bow to your wishes. This is an established community with its lingo, etiquette, feel, mood and so on; not much any amount of whining can do about it. It's a great place but If you don't want to learn or like how it functions you don't have to stay.

  • I'm pretty sure that this is a free world. And a free website for that matter. Are there rules insisting on abbreviations? No. There are suggestions on abbreviation alternatives. I think they're annoying and unnecessary since as I stated before, it takes 1/2 a second to actually type an ENTIRE word.
  • LOL. OMG! Just MHO.

You're really not making a great impression. You do not have to use the abbreviations if you don't want to, but many people find it easier/quicker to use them. I have not heard of anyone being overly confused about the meanings of them, either. And if anyone WERE to be confused, they could just ask what it means, and then someone would tell them, and it's not a big deal.

Sorry you're annoyed. There is no reason to be rude or snarky.

  • Erika, it's so cute that you think this is lingo made up specifically by Nesties for the Nest.  You'll find that if you peek around the internet, anyone on community forums, even articles, blogs, etc. use these acronyms all the time.  So, actually, you're welcome.
