Swiss Chard

I picked up a large and absolutely beautiful bunch of swiss chard at the farmer's market today.  Now, what do I do with it?  I'm not sure I've made anything with it ever before.

The stems are gorgeous colors too...red and orange and fuschia...are they good to eat or are they tough like kale stems?

Re: Swiss Chard

  • Swiss chard is one of my favorite greens! It's really tender and has great flavor. I usually slice it into half-inch strips and steam it. Then I'll drizzle on some olive oil & lemon juice & of course salt & pepper.  You can also just do a rough chop and boil it. The stems can be eaten, too. Just cut them up and cook them a few minutes longer than you do the leaves. While I do the lemon juice & olive oil, I think it would be good with whatever flavorings you like. It's yummy stuff and hard to mess up.
  • i have this yummy swiss chard and garlic pasta recipe that my DH loves.

  • Thanks!  We ended up doing a pasta similar to yours Chrisnjay, but we omitted the tomatoes and added some leftover Italian sausage.  It was really good!
