I found a recipe that I was super excited about for Honey Sesame Chicken Sliders (honey, soy, garlic, ginger, vinegar, tomato paste, sesame oil, sesame seeds). The problem is that they weren't that good and now, I have a ton of the shredded chicken in sauce left over. Any ideas for what I could add to it or other ways to change it up so I don't have to toss all of it?
Re: Help
aww thats the worst! I HATE when I am super excited to cook something and it just doesn't turn out right. That recipe (from the ingredients anyway) sounds like it should have been good, too. booo!
well.. here is what I would try before giving it the heave-ho:
1. try to fix the original concept of slider filling. Try adding bbq sauce and/or burbon, or a wing sauce (maybe sriracha mixed with melted butter). At this point you have nothing to lose, so you could try this on the whole batch, or just part of it. Also, mixing or serving it with some veggies might help the flavor.. im thinking shredded cabbage or sliced bell peppers might work.
2. transform the shredded chicken into something else. mix it into baked mac n cheese, add some hot sauce and some veggies (broccoli, peppers, or similar) call it a day (I believe hot sauce fixes everything lol)..
you could try turning it into a stir fry with a bunch of veggies.. I would add a premade sauce that I like and minimize the amount of sauce from the chicken I put in.
you could also bread and fry it. not the healthiest, but I bet it would be good! or turn it into something akin to a crabcake.. mix breadcrumbs with the chicken mix, maybe add a filler like a well cooked potato, and pan-fry.
my read shelf:
What is it that wasn't good? Not enough flavor? Did they taste any better the next day, after the flavors had time to really meld together?
Can you toss the shredded chicken in sauce, doctor that up a little bit depending on what wasn't enjoyable, then turn into a casserole with cooked noodles and cheese, maybe a little sour cream, maybe a can of diced tomatoes too? I love making a casserole out of the main dish leftovers; very easy and such a comfort food.
