first road race... what to wear?

Hi all-

I'm running my first race this week - it's a 5k.  I'm wondering if I should spring for some high-tech running tops/shorts for the race?  I usually run in cotton tanks and either running tights or running capris.

thanks!

What you think, you will become.

Re: first road race... what to wear?

  • I won't be much help with what clothes to wear- but PLEASE wear a hat!!! Runners that don't wear hats are more likely to get skin cancer on their face, and also really bad sunburns!!

  • I would stick with what you normally wear. Pick the outfit that you find most comfortable and cool and go with it.

This. I wouldn't change what you are wearing for your first race. If you want to try some "specifically for running clothes", get them and start wearing them on your daily runs and then decide if they are comfortable and make a difference for the next race.

  • you should be fine. Good Luck!!!

  • You'll be perfectly fine in a cotton tank. Afterwards though, if you plan on continuing running (which you should cuz it's awesome!!) I'd invest in a couple light moisture-wicking tops...just the cheapest ones from Target work great. Especially when it's hot outside, I notice a big difference in how they breathe compared to cotton.
