Hi all! I rarely frequent this forum but have been pondering an idea for a while. At my workplace we have office parties about 2-3 times per year, usually in someone's home. Most of the time the food is "catered".. Ie fazolis, qdoba, BBQ, etc. but sometimes its prepared in the home (ie grilled burgers etc). My idea for when my husband and I host is a baked potato bar.
has anyone ever done this or been to one? I'm thinking various toppings to choose from (bacon ham, several types of cheese, broccoli, chives, sour cream).
any other ideas for toppings? Does this even sound good? Anyone have any practical ways to cook that many baked potatoes (20 people)- should I just plan on using the oven?
Should I have other things like sides or a meat (hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches etc) ?
My husband thinks the idea is a little random but I think it's cool. Just wanted some input as to what others would think.
Thanks!

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I think you could pull this off, but you'd need more substantial toppings.
For example, you could cook some steaks & cut them into smaller pieces and offer that, but having crumbled blue cheese to go with it would be yummy! You could also offer cooked & shredded chicken breasts in an alfredo sauce (or no sauce, with the alfredo on the side).
Look at menus you could alter to make that is something that can be placed on top of the baked potato as a full meal. I'm thinking you would need to have about 15-20 items, many substantial, plus the normal toppings you mentioned. Hopefully you have a large table to put all the toppings on.
Potato goes with everything, but the idea is to make "everything" smaller to put on the potato.
Best way to cook them is to spray them with Pam, or use a paper towel with olive oil to rub on them (makes a crispy skin). Bake in a 350 oven for about an hour, or until a thin knife inserted into the largest potato comes out easily. You can use a jelly roll or similar flat, large pan to lay them on. They don't all have to be in a single layer, you could have some on top of the bottom layer, they'll all cook the same way.
