I'm posting this here since G&T is a little slow.
We have antivirus, malware, etc. software on our two computers (PC and laptop).
But, we just went wireless in our home. We have a password to type in to access our network so our neighbors cannot access it, etc.
My question is: Do we need a firewall? Or, is this password protected thing our firewall?
Is this firewall typically already provide by the Internet service provider? Or, do we buy it separately from them?
How would we know if we have a firewall in place already?
Thanks. I realize I'm probably dating myself...
Re: Firewall? Help.
Just having a password protected network isn't the BEST security. There are ways you can lock it down further so hacker's can't gain access to your network and then leech personal information...I don't know how to do it, but I know my parents have it so that to access their network your computer's MAC address has to be added to a list of devices before you can connect (and then once your device is listed, you still need the password).
Someone at a computer store would probably be able to help you with this.
