Getting cold feet re: Bermuda

Hi all,

DH needed an escape/change of scenery after a very rough month, so we spontaneously booked a flight to Bermuda... leaving this Sunday! It's our first time, and I'm doing frantic research while we are waiting for confirmation on our rental apt. near Church Bay. It looks more expensive than I thought, and not all the beaches are great; I'm stressing out and second-guessing myself, thinking maybe we should have booked Riviera Maya (Akumal, which I adore). If you've been to Bermuda, please tell me that it's going to be amazing and why :) TIA!

Bermuda is a very beautiful island, and it has a neat European feeling to it. It is a little pricey, but it will also be a much shorter flight for you so you'll be able to spend more time enjoying your destination rather than on a plane.

That's true - the 2-hr flight from LGA was what tempted me in the first place :)

Bermuda is beautiful! I have been there on cruises quite a few times (Bermuda itineraries have the ship stay there 2-3 days) and the beaches I have been to are some of the best beaches I have ever been to. One time it wasn't all that pretty was when there had been a tropical storm through there and there was lots of seaweed and things like that all over the sane but the water was still beautiful and clear. But all other times-awesome, Horseshoe Bay, Elbow Beach, and Tobacco Bay were the ones I have seen, they are I think the most popular.
  • If you are willing to use public transportation you will be able to get around very cheaply. Church bay is really nice (you can rent snorkeling stuff there inexpensively). It's also right on a bus line, though I don't recall which. If you keep to casual dining places you'll keep your food budget lower, but it will be more expensive than what you're used to (remember that much of their foodstuffs is imported). I really do love it there, and you'll find that the islanders are extremely helpful and very nice. Don't be afraid to ask for directions or advice, you'll usually find someone willing to help.
  • We are already here and loving it! Snorkeled from the shore at Church Bay, took the bus to Dockyards and ferry to St George, and have been able to eat economically so far :) Thanks for the tips, everyone!
