We were recently given an awesome birch table that looks like this, only the finish is not shiny:
The problem is, we don't have any chairs! The finish is really hard to match. I'm at a loss for what kind of chairs to buy!
Since we can't match the wood, what kind of chairs should we be looking at? I was thinking white or bronze metal leaf bistro chairs, but can't find any without a bistro table included. And I'm afraid using garden chairs might look weird.
We are renters with a new baby and are therefore on a very tight budget (don't want to spend $100's that we don't have on a set that might not match our next place). Our house is an old Colonial duplex with low-key painted cabinets and woodwork, and linoleum floors, so there is no other wood to match, except maybe the off-white beams and moldings.
Our table and kitchen are small. Thanks!
Re: Chairs for new kitchen table?
There are so many options!
You could do a secondary solid color for the chairs. Depending on your overall color scheme, I'd recommend a red, black, or white:

You could paint the table and find coordinating chairs...

Or you could paint the whole thing instead of the 2-tone idea...
OR -- you could keep a tablecloth on the table and nobody would ever know it's a different color

Thanks! I don't want to paint or cover the table because it is brand new and the wood is beautiful.
I was thinking of doing white chairs, but don't know how they'd look. I'm having trouble finding white chairs with a matte finish.
I love the two tone chairs but can't find the right finish.
Is it possible to mix natural finish woods and if so what are the rules?
Not sure where you are located, but if you have a one nearby, check out IKEA. They have a lot of options for chairs, and they aren't that expensive. Plus, the nice thing about IKEA is that if you find a style that you like, they are pretty easy to change up the color via paint or stain.

I don't want anything too modern, since we live in a traditionally decorated colonial (and plan to buy the same kind of home when we're able.)
If the color is off a little bit, will anyone be able to notice besides me? Or are there certain darker woods that would compliment a light finish birch?
Here are a few examples of the shapes I would consider.
