What made your honeymoon special?
Re: What made your honeymoon special?
Can only have so much sex?? Jk
Yea... Gotta love the TSA sometimes. I told the guy "this is a great way to start my honeymoon" and that took him by surprise a little. He did say sorry.
Everything was so beautiful and we had these fantastic experiences every day, riding snowmobiles and sledding with huskies/reindeer. We spent one night in a beautiful carved ice room sleeping in reindeer skins on an ice bed at -5C, and the rest of the time in cute, warm little chalets. We took photos under the northern lights and ate reindeer and moose, and we spent an evening in the ice bar drinking cocktails from glasses made of ice.
It was so unique and so us, and we felt so alone together and far away from everything. It was amazing.
Seriously, it wasn't actually that difficult. It was a very dry cold, you didn't really feel it. I walked to the restaurant for breakfast in a t-shirt one morning and I felt fine even though it was about -11C. All guests get complimentary snowsuits and snow boots to wear during their stay and we did wear them when out and about but they were only strictly necessary for doing the activities.
For the one night on the ice bed in the cold accommodation, we slept on reindeer skins which are very good natural insulators, then we had a double sleeping bag designed for up to -15C, which kept us toasty warm since the hotel is actually heated to -5C. I ended up unzipping my side of the bag as I was too hot!
I like your photos from your hot/cold honeymoon!

We went to Canmore, AB. We rented a condo with a pool and hot tub so we were able to relax our aching muscles after a day of hiking/mountain biking or exploring the town. I think what made it special is that it was the first time in a looong time (almost 4 years) that we were able to be alone and not have anything requiring our time. I was also living in a different province at the time of the wedding so it was nice to spend time with him period.
After going through it, I would definitely tell anyone getting married to do SOMETHING with their new spouse right after the wedding, even if it's only a night or two away together. It's such a special time and the longer you wait the more you forget that special newlywed feeling.
Being newlyweds hit home for me while we were laid over in Alabama for an hour and DH had just walked off to get something and a lady tried to sit next to me and without missing a beat I said "I'm sorry but my husband is sitting there" It took me a minute to realize what I had just said and them I could not stop smiling, DH came back saw my smile and asked about it. I told him what had just happened and it made our day!
