Solicitors

I swear my neighborhood has a sign at the front that says "Come knock on our door and sell us stuff". I don't know if its because the houses are close together and it's easy for them to canvas the place quickly or what. I hate hearing someone at the door when Greg is at work.

Today I heard a knock and peeked out the blinds. I couldn't make out their face except to see it was a guy and he had a bike on the side walk. I ignore it and go back to the living room. 3 minutes later he's knocking again. So I go upstairs to Aidens room and open the window to yell down and ask what he wanted. He asked if I had elementary school kids and if he could come in to show me a five minute education demonstration. I told him no that I didn't let people in my house that I don't know.

I felt kind of bad because it seemed like he was a college or high school kid trying to earn some cash, but come on kid, I don't know if you're some psycho killer.

I get some guy at least three times a summer asking if I want to buy steak that he just happened to have extra of out of his van. Not to mention the random magazine sellers, religious people, and maintence guys. I'm tempted to get a no soliciting sign or something. Sorry there's no real point to this ramble, he just irked my nerves.

Re: Solicitors

  • I would think you could put a sign on your front door saying no solicitors and see if that helps.

I would get sooo annoyed at that.

That's what my parents do and it's helped.  I don't get much because we're a new neighborhood and just starting to show up on maps.  I get a kid once a year selling candles or whatever for  the school.

  • I don't blame you for not letting him in your house. Especially if you were home alone with the kids.

We're in a condo so we get nothing. Not even trick-or-treaters. A friend of H's sold steaks out of a truck once though when they were laid off LOL

  • Luckily, it's normally H that is home during the times people like that would come around!  I normally just pretend like no one is home and don't answer the door!  H on the other hand is a sucker and has fallen prey to the frozen steak guys and some other people that came around and was selling some sort of cleaning product!

  • Our neighborhood has a sign in the front, but it doesn't do any good.  We have had ALOT of religious people lately.  I normally don't answer the door.

That happened to me once when I was trying to leave my house.  He parked his van at the end of my driveway and blocked me in.  I was freaked out.
