Help Me Decorate - Bedroom

My room is so dull looking.  My comforter is like a very light blue/green color and my sheets are beige/gold.  My curtains are beige/gold and all of my furiture is an espresso color.  I would like to add some color but also like to achieve a modern chic look.  Looking for add some color using some nice throw pillows first.  Bedroom

Re: Help Me Decorate - Bedroom

  • I'd look for accents in the blue green family since you already have that color in your bed spread. You are also going to want to try to find some large and small wall art with those colors as well to coordinate it all.

To be honest, if I were you I'd join houzz.com. It's free, and there are thousands of pictures for inspiration.

  • You need pattern...visual movement.

    - Find some blue green art for above the bed. Remember to buy much larger than you think you need - one of the most common beginner mistakes is buying everything too small. Look at magazines - you'll never see small anything, always a couple large rather than lots of little things. Local arts fairs are a great place to get originals. Or if you live near a college, find out when their art department has their student sales.

    - Add a few graphic patterned pillows. Etsy has a million in your colors.

    - Add a large vase in your colors on top of the dresser by the photographer. TJ Maxx is always my go-to for things like that.

    -  I'd get colored bedside lamps (either ceramic or glass) in your colors, blue would probably be easiest to find. Try Target or TJ. Remember don't buy dinky things.

Good luck! The neutral base you have to work with is really a fantastic starting place!

  • Since, you have decided to redesign your bedroom, be sure to consider what both you and your significant other prefers. But if your suite is all about you, so don't worry about using popular trends like dressers, nightstands, armoires and a bed. While choosing the color for your bedroom, be selective to the color that suits your personality.
  • have you considered painting your bedroom wall? or put up wallpaper ? there are many choice in them. if you think the project is time-consuming, you can try wall decors, some art picture?
  • Add a large piece of wall art or buy some new decorative bedding. Also, read this blog post.  It offers lots of good ideas for redecorating a bedroom: http://www.modernandmature.co.uk/latest/?article=224
  • Hi, NinaC

I would suggest before buying or doing anything in your bedroom make sure you know how you want to feel in your bedroom first. Do you want to feel sexy, relaxed, or calm in your bedroom?
After you figure out how you want to feel, then purchase items like pillows are anything else that would give the feeling that you want to achieve.

    Happy Decorating!

  • I would suggest you to paint your walls or use stickers to make it look brighter & cosy. At the same time change your curtain & use some of the vibrant colors to feel the warmth of the room.

Also if possible do add some itineraries like lamp shades or photo frames to further decorate the room.
  • I think you really need some more softness.  This looks so masculine and neutral.  Colorful pillows and some colorful artwork would bring life to the room.  If you have a little more in your budget I would change out the window treatments for something with an updated print with a little color to it.  I love the trellis/lattice panels.  Do not add black and white photos or family photos in your bedroom, the artwork needs to be actual art (like an acrylic or oil painting) to bring warmth and texture into the room.
    Have fun!
