Regret hyphenating. Can I change it?

Got married 5 years ago and wasn't ready to drop my maiden name so I hyphenated my name. But it's a ridiculously long name and I'm just ready to drop it.

I'm due to renew my NJ license this month. Can I just go and change my name again? Do I have to change through social security first? Help?!

  • Did you change through SS originally?

  • Yeah I did but I'm worried they're gonna give me a hard time bc of that.

  • I think you need to change at SS first and I think you just need to bring your marriage certificate again. And pay. I moved my maiden middle. And tossed my middle.
  • In two different states, neither being PA or NJ I was told in order to change my name I had to do it legally. Like through the court. Once John and I got married I waited almost 2 years to legally change my name back to my maiden name. There was a lot of confusion at the SS office. I say go in an try it.
