Friends have invited us to the Wyndham Rio Mar resort in Rio Grande Puerto Rico but warned us that the food at the resort isn't good so they anticipate driving into Old San Juan every night for dinner. Map Quest tells me its about 40 minutes each way. My Q is how are the roads?
This doesn't sound like much of a vacation to me so I'm not sure what we're going to do but I'm still gathering info.
Re: driving in Puerto Rico?
that's crazy. why would they want to go there in the first place then? your question has 2 answers. the main roads and highways are great-just like here. i'm not sure about the roads out by that resort though.
and fwiw there's restaurants between that resort and OSJ.
When we went to PR, we only ate in Old San Juan one night. There are plenty of restaurants outside the old city, so I'm not sure why you'd need to drive there every night.
The driving is pretty similar to the US, the main highways are well taken care of, the traffic laws are similar. Some people are a little crazier than others, but it's nothing most people can't handle. The only thing that I noticed was 'different' was that the cops drive with their lights on all the time (at least on the surface streets, I don't remember if they did on the highways).
