Hi!
DH & I are living on the east coast & considering moving to LA.
Problem is, my job offer is in Burbank and his is in Orange. Is there any way to make this work, and if so, where should we live?
Thanks!
Re: Moving to LA
Hello there! Before I begin, may I suggest (if you haven't already) to also post on the Orange County (California) Nestie Board. Those Nesties may also be able to assist you.
I live in what's considered the same area/valley as Burbank. For work I had to drive southbound to Norwalk (more than half way between Burbank and Orange). I think that it was worse for me going that route, compared to commuters traveling the opposite direction. I believe that a commute north towards Burbank may be better than a commute south towards Orange.
There are many cities you can consider in between, but unfortunately I am not as familiar with those areas as perhaps some other Nestie. I hope this may helps you. I also hope that other Nesties from those specific cities can help you. Good luck!

Hi! Welcome to LA!
I don't know much about traffic patterns other than I know will be lots of traffic for you every day. I would not buy a house when you get here only to see if the commute is really doable for both of you. My DH used to commute 26 miles each way and it took 1.5 hrs and after a year it was too much to bear. We now live within 2 miles of his office and I love having those extra 3 hrs with him every day (commute was 1.5 hrs each way!)
It looks like there is a 42 mile distance from Burbank and Orange (according to Mapquest) which I would venture to say in traffic could be as much as 2 hrs on I-5 during rush hour.
You should see what type of hours you both will work and are they any flexible - like leaving the office at 3 or 4 pm instead of 5 or 6 pm as that will help some. Good luck!
It really depends where in Orange County his job is...If he is close to the Orange County/La County boarder the traffic from the LAX/South Bay area is all against traffic going south. It may be best to split the difference between your job and his, in the Downey, Norwalk Area. I live in the South Bay area near LAX and love it, but the commute to Burbank would be awful. I would look a bit more inland. Please post the areas you are looking at and you can get a lot of feed back! BTW it is 82 degrees here today!!
