How much does a decorater charge?

How much do interior decorators usually charge?

Re: How much does a decorater charge?

  • It depends. I hired one years ago in the beginning of our marriage to do our small living room, and it was a flat fee that included furniture and accessories as well as her time. We paid $6k. The next year I hired a color consultant just to tell me wall color and it was $70/hr. She worked quickly and specified the whole house in about 90 minutes.

I'm guessing things aren't going well? The answers in your posts didn't help? I remember feeling overwhelmed and that I would never have a pretty, "done" room when we got our first house. Let me know if I can help more :)

  • We recently used one and she charged $65/hour. When we signed a contract, we specified how many total hours we agreed to have her to work on the total project with a stipulation that so many rooms and certain things in each room be addressed. For example, part of our kitchen project we desperately needed an area dedicated to organization of pet toys and supplies.

  • Just wanted to know my options.  I've checked all over the internet, and pretty much every retail store.  Just hits and misses, especially at places like Home Goods.
  • It depends on many things:  Where you live, how experienced they are, and what level of service you expect.

You can also look into e-decorating. Many designers are offering this type of service for those who desire to shop themselves and/or have a limited budget. A quick Google search should give you lots of choices.

As with many things, you get what you pay for with a designer or decorator so be careful to make sure their style matches your own and that you like their work.
