I will be packing lunches until the day I die.

The subject of school lunches came up at the dinner table the other night, so I (gleefully!) informed Jake that when you're in elementary school, you get to do this awesome thing where you can buy your lunch every day!  I started telling him what some of the choices would be, and he then asked what happens if you don't buy it.  I told him that he would have to bring in a packed lunch, like he's been doing for preschool.

His response?  "I want you to pack my lunch for the rest of my life, mommy".

  • Aww!

dd eats daycare food so I haven't had to pack food since infant room. In the fall she starts kindergarten but only half day and then after school program so I will have to pack lunch as there is no buying option. I'm already stressing out about it!! I hate putting my own stuff together. I'm hoping I can convince dd to do it herself...wishful thinking I'm sure!

  • Oh no!   Maybe once he starts school he'll have friends that buy and then he'll want to buy, too!  Don't give up hope just yet.  ;)

I'm pretty sure that Brody won't want to buy...he's a picky eater, so I'm sure the pizza will be too "saucy" and the nuggets will be too droopy.

  • welcome to my reality.... woo, food allergies.

    HAHA.

Jackson started the school year off packing, because it was new to him (I chose my daycare partly because they provided all food). When he asked to buy after Christmas, I threw a little party. He later asked to pack again, and I told him that mommy's mornings improved dramatically when he started buying, and we were going to continue that, but that he could have a treat at home after school (I'm an evil mom).

  • I really hope he changes his mind.  I even told him how they have a "power pack" lunch option that includes yogurt...this kid could live off of yogurt, if given the chance!

  • Very cute!!

I packed 98% of the first two quarters and about 90% of the 3rd quarter (maternity leave). Then I ended up burning out and packed about 60% of thee last quarter. At $2.50/day, lunch is cheap, but with paying for school too, I got cheap!
