fav/worst song

I listen to mostly anything, but i was raised on country, so my fav country song has to be "Wagon Wheel" Darius Rucker..who i learned a few months ago was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish!

A song i am growing fond of (mainly for the beat) is the new one from Miley Cyrus  "We Can't Stop"  -- the video however scares the hell out of me.

A song i can say i could do without would probably be Cups by Anna Kendrick... i love Pitch Perfect don't get me wrong..but i am getting so sick of that song now.

Re: fav/worst song

  • That's pretty funny you just learned who the lead for Hootie and the Blowfish was hahaa. I remember them being big when I was in like 8th grade. I guess I'm showing my age.

My favorite artist is Matthew Good. I lean mostly towards rock but we listen to lots of different stuff around the house, Beatles, Dylan, classical, a lot of British rock n roll, jazz, southern jazz New Orleans style, just depends on our mood. I have a fantastic old record of a Turkish folk/opera singer called Ruhi Su. I am not a fan of today's popular music.

  • Haha i'm only 24, when i was younger (mid 90s) my parents always listened to the radio in our kitchen on this oldies channel and that band was on a lot, and when Darius Rucker went solo and i heard his previous songs, i never put two and two together lol

I personally feel that today's music just does not have enough feeling, like you can tell when you are listening to an oldies song, you can actually feel the emotion...song's today lack that

  • Hootie and The Blowfish - oldies? LOL boy do I feel old now.....and I'm only 38.

The one song that I wish would just fall off the face of the earth - Levels (aviici) - worst. song. evar.

Hootie does not qualify as "oldies" - no way.  I'm 26 and distinctly remember Hootie on the radio!

I am loving Miley's new song and I kind of hate myself for it!

  • i dont have any favorites really, plus im really bad at knowing who sings it and what the song is called.

Country is my favorite genre, but i do listen to different types- pop, rock, alternative

    *phew*

    I got scared for a minute there....hahaha

I have to admit that I?m generally not a huge fan of pop music, but I really have been digging Bruno Mars lately....

  • I think the rule of thumb is that anything 25 years old or before that is considered an "oldie" so you're talking pre-1989 music.:)

Our local oldies station is 60s, 70s and 80s.  So that means you get Van Halen, Madonna, Prince and Boy George qualifiying as oldies material.:)

Way back when when that station was on the air, anything recent (Top 40) would have been classified by that station as "Future Gold" and they'd play it.

I'm starting to fall in love with some Rascal Flats stuff...  Broke Roads, I think other is called something about Holding on.

The songs I would ditch are Don't Worry Be Happy and She Drives Me Crazy (FYC)

  • Love so much music Well, I woke up singing 'Landslide'

Song I can't stand ummmmm, none really, but I sure am shocked how famous that 'I love it' song has become by the Swedish duo.

I think I'm just in denial about how old I really am that it's hard to imagine music that I grew up with to be classified as 'oldies'. lol

I dj, so most of the music I play is current and not stuff you would ever hear on the radio (in the US) although I occasionally drop a 'classic' into my sets. My H & I just played a happy hour gig a few weeks ago and it was an acid house party - so all records we played were circa 1988-1992.....fun times :) I generally don't speak much about the djing stuff here because I'm not sure if anyone here is into electronic music but am more than happy to share if anyone wants to have a listen - I do have dj sessions loaded up on the web ;)

:o You've got my interest!! I grew up with electronic music - Dad used to play it around the house when I was growing up, and I've never left it since c:

May I have your soundcloud link? Or a link to whatever you use for your music, lol.

Edit: Also I totally forgot to mention that it's ADORABLE that you and your hubby DJ together! I wish I could do that with mine, but I have no clue what I'm doing, haha.

    Another edit: Back on topic...

my current fave song: $TING by The Neighbourhood - http://snd.sc/150a52Q (Soundcloud, not a virus)

Good god, EVERYTHING by The Neighbourhood is just so sensual and UGH. Makes my heart melt. (Great for the bedroom too ;D )

A song I could definitely live without....way too many to list, but I guess I'll go with either Gangnam Style or anything by Katy Perry. She just annoys me with her chronic WOAHOAHOHAODHFAHAODFH that goes on. (She's copyrighted for that, can you believe it?! )

yeaaaaa....definitely am not down with the Gangum Style track, not even sure how it got so big here. Katy Perry, or pretty much any of those pop artists I could do without too. I'm a huge fan of Depeche Mode - going to try to catch them when they come here in September.

It's funny, the whole djing thing is what brought my hubby and I together. We both have the same agent and he booked us to do a show together in Paris, and the rest was as they say history. We both had separate careers before we met, and still do to this day, although we do collaborate on projects together sometimes. We have a release on the label of Paul Van Dyk and a bunch of other labels including our own. We also do gigs both together and separate. It's one of those things, if I get booked to play somewhere, I try to arrange it so both of us can play - mainly so we can travel together. I've gone off on my own too though, but more fun with him and we're always trying to help each other out. It's fun - we've been to Ibiza, Greece, Italy, Romania, Belgium, lots of places :)

    I have stuff on 2 sites - soundcloud.com/becka and mixcloud.com/becka

Wow. Just....wow. You're SO incredibly lucky!!! I wish I could do that with my man, lol. I'll definitely take a listen after I finish making breakfast c; That's pretty freaking crazy that you/your hubby have played worldwide...and on Van Dyk's label...WOW. :D Y'all must put so much time into it all...

I tried to get into production for the past few years, but had a hard time juggling school and work with it, especially since I didn't have a clue on what I was doing, lol. And once I met my guy, I realized that I didn't want to dedicate that much time away from him, so I kinda dropped it :p

  • worst (country) song ever: red solo cup! omg

Yea, I def feel lucky to have someone who understands and respects the music and industry. It is challenging sometimes finding balance between having a 'normal' life and juggling the music stuff for sure, but it really is such a big part of our lives that we wouldn't have it any other way. We both work day jobs too now but we have a studio at home so we just devote any free time we have to that.
