Must-see and do's in Portugal

So DH and I have been talking about a European vacation for years, and I think we will finally be able to take one within the next year. I have recently become intrigued with Portugal and the Madeira Islands after watching an episode of the Bachelorette! The ferry to Madeira Island south of Lisbon, so we would probably want to spend part of our vacation around Lisbon and part on the Islands. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
