Room Ideas

Hi,

We recently purchased our first home and I have a couple spaces and little plans for them.

The first is the front rooms. When you walk in the front door you enter a hallway off of what is supposed to be a formal living/dining room. We really have no use for formal rooms, so we have considered doing a pool table, seating area and dry bar. Originally, we had planned to use the downstairs master bedroom as a game room - but it is too small for a pool table. It is approx 15x15ft with an attached bathroom and is located just off the family room.  Any ideas of what to use this room for?

We have an upstairs bedroom which we are occupying and an upstairs computer and guest room.  My only thought would be to put the computer room in the downstairs room...but its for too big for just a computer. I want it to be a nice, useable space!!

Thanks.

Re: Room Ideas

  • Congrats on your first home!

I don't think what you are planning is a bad idea for this stage of your life. However, if you think long term, will you be using this room for entertaining in the future, ie a conversation area and guests having a place to sit and talk/visit? Depending on the size of the room, and other places in your home, once you commit to a pool table, will you have a place for it elsewhere when you want to use the living room for it's future purpose?

Just think this through for today and tomorrow. If you are comfortable with the plan, then go for it.

  • library or den, or guest room
  • home office or place for your kids to do homework and reading.
