Board & batten/wainscotting in only half the rooms?

Would it be weird to only have the board & batten (or wainscoting, not sure yet) in only the 3 "main" rooms on the first floor? The rooms would be the family/TV room, formal living room/study and dining room. The kitchen is newly remodeled and I wouldn't want to touch it. The other 2 rooms are the man cave/den and the laundry room. 

There is already board & batten up the stair well and I love how it looks, but I wonder if its ok to only do a few rooms?

Of course it's ok to only have it in a few rooms. The rooms you mentioned are generally the ones where this technique is used. If you already have it up the stairwell (which is the hardest area of all to do), it will look great.
