Lamp from Overstock.com

I have a question for anyone who knows about this item:

http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Antique-Copper-Finish-Glass-Lantern-Chandelier/4338599/product.html?productQuestionResponse=SUCCESS

The cord and chain are not long enough to have this lantern hang in my foyer with a 20ft ceiling because I would like to hang it so that it is 10 ft from the floor.

I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be possible to replace the cord and chain on this with a longer chain and cord that can be bought from a home improvement store? Has anyone had success with that?

 TIA!

Re: Lamp from Overstock.com

  • It can probably be done pretty easily.

Just something to consider...this light only has 3 bulbs...each is a max of 60 watts.

For a foyer with 20 ft. ceiling, that's not very much light out-put - it will probably be too dim. Also, with that type of ceiling height, you probably will want a bigger chandelier/lantern (not necessarily wider, but definitely taller).

I wonder if this light will looked dwarfed in the space.

  • Good points! I plan on hanging 2 lanterns to replace the 2 (from 1975) that are currently hanging there. The actual light fixtures are the same in size and stature. The old ones seem fine to me in terms of space so I thought these ones from Overstock would do just fine.

Here are pics of my house when the previous owners lived in it (real estate photos). You will see one of the chandelier hanging on the right of the stairs.
