Help me decide..

Right now I have a small 2dr coupe.  Obviously not a good car with kids.  We've already talked about getting me a new car when the time comes.  DH was hoping I'd get a used car for under $10k.  I figured I'd want something newer.. which would cost more.  So I would just pick the battle when the time comes, ha.

Yesterday, he started sending me texts about cars, out of the blue.  Then on my way home from work, he called and asked if I wanted to drive around to look at them.  I'm a little confused where this all came from.. but going along with it.

We go to Chevy, and he starts out looking at 2013s (what?).  I told him I didn't want to spend that much, so we go to the used section, and look at the used Chevy Equinoxs.

Long story short (maybe it's too late for that..)

We found this one.  clicky.

The red is bold, but its a darker shimmery red.  I never saw myself buying red, but I kinda like it.  I love the low milaage, and a lot of the features.  The two toned interior, again, I didn't see myself buying, but I kinda like that too!

Of course the salesman didn't like that I said I wanted to think about it overnight, but I was not prepared to look at cars!  What's your opinon??

  • I think it's beautiful! Is this the type of car you were looking for?

  • I like the color.

I drive an SUV also. I love it. I can't imagine driving a car again. I think when I was looking though this size SUV wasn't around in Chevy's lineup. I wound up with an escape which I love.

Good friends of ours just bought this same model (not sure on the year) and lots of people posted they loved them also when she posted a picture. So on hearsay, it sounds like its a good car.

  • I like it and red doesn't bother me at all. I like red cars and both of us have owned red vehicles. It took DH a good month at least to find his perfect car. Its ok to think. If you don't feel pressured into getting it, love it and won't have buyers remorse, go buy it! Do not delay!

Yes.. I always liked the look of this model, but thought it would be more than DH wanted to spend.  Either way I wanted a small SUV style car.  We both own a chevy right now, and have been happy with them.

    Thanks for the responses!

  • I like the car. I do like the equinox body. I'll be looking for a SUV eventually. Here's something else to think about... That's a 2012 with 21,000 miles on it for just over $24,000. Most used cars don't have the warranty. I know Hyundai has a transferrable warranty, but I couldn't find if Chevy has a transferrable warranty. I just looked at Equinox and for a brand new 2013 with the trim of the one you're looking at plus the AWD, it looks like you could get it for around $28,500. I didn't compare all the teeny tiny options that the used car has compared to the new one when I was building it, so it could be a tad more than that. With that, you would be able to have a warranty for not that much more. If you can swing the additional payment as well.

  • I've had that color car before, I like it.

If you are looking for a family car, safety is going to be the most important factor, and then space and functionality. One of my personal requirements is that there is a bench seat with hooks for the carseat to be placed in the middle. And enough room to get a stroller in and out.

That's a good point, which we discussed too... The price online is higher than what the sheet at the dealership had, which I noticed when I pulled it up when I got home.  So it's a couple thousand under the 24.  The higher price wasn't worth it to me to go up to the 13.  It seems to be very similar in features.. if there was something that jumped out I would've maybe considered it.  The goal is that I have the car paid off by the time I quit working once we have a baby, so I'd rather save those few thousand dollars. :)

Oh and I do get what's left of the warranty, which I think he said only goes up to 30k, so I'll hit that soon with as much driving as I do!

  • I know of a couple people who have the Equinox... they love them. I got out of a "car" in September and brought a brand new Escape - I LOVE the SUV. It's still small though so I don't feel like I am driving a van or bus around town. I know for me it was important for me to stay with in a range for my gas useage. Look into it -

If you felt pressured by a sales person, request a new one. Also, have them look at what a brand new one would cost. We found out that we could purchase a brand new Escape for cheaper than we could a used one because of the incentives they give you.

I love the red color... I'm slightly jealous!

We are grafting our family tree!

  • They are definitely nice.  I am loving the fact that it has a back-up camera.

Something else to think about - the 2014's will be out soon (if they aren't already).  Dealers might have great deals on 2013's to get them sold.
