If I remember correctly, you have a chinese shar-pei right?

Re: *Cinderin*

  • I do! Her name is Ling Ling and she is about 6 years old. We got her right before she turned 4. She is the best dog (mobile smiley).

    Do you hve one?

  • I do. Her name is baby she's 2 years old. DH got her for me when she was 8 weeks old. She's my first dog ever and I'm still learning how to be a good pet mommy.

I was wondering, do you have any problems with her ears? If you do, how do you handle it?

  • I am such a proud mom, I needed to put a picture of her.

Yes! Usually her ears bother her about once a month.

Any dog who has ears that don't get a lot of air are going to have some problems with them.

We clean them (with Q Tips) once a week or every other week. Ling actually *loves* to have her ears cleaned (she *hates* her nails clipped - so there you go!).

We also have some ear cleaner/ear drops. If her ear is bothering her, I take her outside, put the medicine in her ear and rub it with a paper towel from the outside. She loves having her ears rubbed. They usually feel better within about a day.

She is the funniest dog. If her ear is bothering her, she will come right up to you and make this "face" like she is sad and she will have the ear down that she wants you to rub. Sometimes she just wants the ear rubbed. She is a goof ball.

In fact, if she has an itch or anything else she thinks you should be doing she will make the face and kind of point or make motions toward what she would like done. She is very smart.

  • Oh my, she's beautiful!! She looks just like my dog but with the darker nose and a little bit bigger. I think my dog is small compared to her mom and dad.

My dog loves getting her ears rubbed too! As soon as we start rubbing her ears she puts up on leg, lol!

Now see, I understand having problems every month or so but baby has problems A lot, I even have to give her some benadryl so that she can sleep at night or else she will be a brat all night long!! I clean her ears out and ill put some drops in her ears that I got from 1-800-pet meds and rub that in for 7 days and then it will go away for a like a week and then she has the problem again.

Does Ling shake a lot? Oh my god baby shakes like no other. She seriously does it all day long! And she sheds a lot :-/

so... I can (and do) talk about my dog a lot! I can just go on and on...

Yes, she shakes a lot. It is a shar-pei thing. I think it has to do with the wrinkles :-)

She sheds a large volume but it is kind of seasonal. she sheds a couple times a year, but she sometimes sheds so much she gets little bald spots (on her butt or leg). It helps if we brush her. she likes to be brushed. I think she itches when she sheds and the brushing feels good for her.

she spends most of her time sleeping. she is pretty well behaved. she *loves* to sunbathe. she is an indoor dog, but we let her in the backyard to go potty and when she eats. On a sunny day she will beg to go out and she will lay in the grass in the sun and bake. She gets so hot! she will even roll over to get the other side hot. Also a shar-pei thing. so funny.

They are the kitty cat breed of dogs. Like to sleep, be lazy, sunbathe. :-)

Haha, it's ok I love talking about my dog and others people's pups. So no worries here specially since our dogs are like the exact same thing!!

My dog sheds all year round! Maybe I should try brushing her hair to see if that helps. Baby uses to have a bald spot on her neck, it would get red and it was completely bald, we would put some ointment my mom would get from work (she's a cna) and that would really help. We also started giving her home food, (stuff with oil) and she slowly started growing her hair back. We also found out she was allergic to corn and most dog food has corn so we switched her to the authority  brand.

I think it's so funny that our dogs are so alike! Baby can sleep ALL DAY LONG!! We make jokes about how she probably worked all day, lol! Baby is also an indoor dog and since we just moved into an apartment I usually let her out on the patio and she just lays there and enjoys the sun. Baby is well behaved she just likes to jump a lot, and she doesn't seem to fond of little dogs, specially the ones that bark for no reason. She's very over protective.

My other thing with her is she's curious, like when we used to live with my mom and we would let her go out in the backyard she would mess with bugs. She came in once with her eye completely swollen shut and the other time her face was all swollen and her whole body had bumps on it. (I cried so much when she would come in like that, it's like I couldn't protect her and I felt like a horrible mommy). We still don't know what she got into and what stung her so many times but we have spent a lot of money at the vet getting her shots to get swelling to go down.

Shar-pei are so funny because so much of their personality has to do with their breed. I did have a Rottweiler growing up (great family dog) and she had some similarities to Shar-Pei. I think it must be a "guard dog" breed thing. :-)
