Are you the spider killer?

Hey ladies! Just curious if you are the ones who take care of the bugs in your home. I vanquish them on a weekly basis lol, my husband won't go near them. How bout you and yours?

Re: Are you the spider killer?

  • My husband. I'm deathly afraid. When I was little I had a spider crawl up my arm in my bed and I've been ever since.
  • if my DH is home and close to me i'll have him do it. But i can do it myself if necessary.

  • Yup! Everything except roaches. I hate those little buggers.
  • Yup. DH grew up in England with no poisonous spiders, whereas here there are... so I smash automatically and he tries to catch and release. He's started smushing, as he knows it's kind of necessary, but he really hates doing it.

I like spiders, so I usually just flick them outside instead of killing them (no poisonous ones around here!) H will freak out if he sees one.
  • Noooooo. H does the bug killing around here.

  • I try not to kill insects but I find it very hard to get them outside. So, I am a bug killer. I am generally not scared of them unless they're crazy looking or there are quite a few in an area which doesn't usually happen.

When I was married, I was the one who confronted them. My ex was scared of them.

  • DH is the bug killer. If he isn't home, I put the cat near the bug and let her take care of it. I think I have only had to kill one or two bugs since we've been married, and that's fine with me!

  • A couple of things to answer your question:

I seriously hate the feeling/sound/texture of the crunch of killing any bug or spider. I can't handle it. So, growing up, I would call for my father (or mom) to come "take care" of the bug. If i was alone, I would put a cup over it until someone else could help with the situation (go ahead and laugh, it's ridiculous I know!)

After college, I spent some time around a buddhist family and learned a lot of interesting things from them. Now, I don't' have it in me to kill any bugs or spiders. I came across a GIGANTIC centipede in my bath tub a few weeks ago and I put a bowl over top of it until one of my friends could come over and get it out of my apartment. When I say that this thing was GIGANTIC, I mean it was 4 inches long and maybe was an inch tall. *barf* Now, I plug the bottom of my shower whenever I'm not using it. I think it came up through the pipe because the centipede couldn't seem to crawl out of the tub. I hope that was the case...

  • Girl, my husband is an 'African Spider Whisperer' Ha! He catches them, and then puts them outside. YUCK. I'm like, I can't believe he touches them, he's not bothered, but he hates frogs, I don't mind them so if we ever get a frog infestation, I'll be his hero:) LOL

    Newly Married??? Sister, let's relate!

  • my husband attempts to kill spiders but appears to only gently caress them with the tissue and then releases them into the carpet never to be seen again. I found out that his father does the same thing. *sigh *
I use a fly swatter viciously and effectively.
  • Neither of us believe in killing any bug.  We put a cup over them and slide card stock underneath and release them.  We do the same for mice.

  • My husband. I'm deathly afraid. When I was little I had a spider crawl up my arm in my bed and I've been ever since.
When I was in high school I woke up in the middle of one night with really itchy legs. When I scratched at them I felt a bug. A spiders nest had hatched somewhere near my bed and all the babies got in with me to warm up (it was winter in Michigan). Upon inspection the next morning there were at least 6 crushed ones left in my bed. O.o

  • I live by myself so I do all the killing/releasing. I had a terrible case of carpet beetles so I bombed my rooms a couple times and since then nothing comes in except an occasional fruit fly.

When I'm at work (cram school) I try to let the children take care of the bugs unless it flies, then I open the window. Oh, sometimes we have bats. I don't do bats.
  • I am the spider killer but not by choice. DH freaks out like a little girl when he sees one. He will not let me release it, he demands that it be killed. I used to just let the occasional spider live in my house. When I was a kid there was one who lived in our bathroom for years. If she was spotted, she was usually too high to do anything about at that moment so she just kept on living in there.

Ha ha! I love this post. It's about 50-50 in our house. I just killed a spider the other day in fact. Basically I will kill the bug myself unless it looks really menancing/is too quick for me, etc. My DH is basically the swat team we call in on special assignments. :)

  • We both kill bugs. If he's around and I'm being skidish he kills them. Although I do not do ants or swarms. I had a traumatic experience with fireants when I was little and never got over it. If its bad I will shut down and won't do anything for the rest of the day.
