Ireland/UK travel ideas?

DH and I will be attending a wedding in Dublin next fall and would like some ideas of what to see and do while we're in that neck of the woods.  We've visited Ireland before (including Cliffs of Moher, Killarney Nat'l Park, and Dublin) and are interested in attending the wedding and then heading somewhere else but torn between Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland.  Anyone have suggestions?  Also, we are considering driving ourselves around.  Has anyone done this before?  Is it easy enough?

Re: Ireland/UK travel ideas?

  • You should check travelzoo and see if they are advertising any good deals for Ireland....I see vacation deals all the time for there - some include airfare, hotel, and car rental....I've actually been wanting to do one of those vacations, but it has to wait for now....
  • I vote for Wales-- it's breathtakingly beautiful there.  Have fun!

  • My husband and I spent 10 days in Scotland last fall.  We stayed mostly in Glasgow and the surrounding area, but we took a guided tour for a couple of nights in the highlands.  I wish we spent more time in the highlands.  Inverness is the unofficial capital of the highlands, and is a central location for sightseeing in the north of Scotland.

  • Scotland is great, very pretty! But I heard Wales is amazing, mountains, beach, and beautiful countryside.

  • We drove around Ireland, Scotland and Wales and found it pretty easy. We had our moments and a few reminders which way to go at roundabouts. I really loved Scotland, but Wales are also so beautiful. It's a hard choice. I'm sure you'll be happy with either choice. We took the car on the ferry between Ireland and Wales, and again between Ireland and Scotland. It was really easy.
  • I'm a big one for Scotland over Wales. There's just so much difference in culture, and so much to see.

Although Wales is still gorgeous.  So you can't go wrong with either one.
