Florida in August?

I am wondering if anyone has vacationed in FL in August.  How is the weather during that time?  I noticed it is the rainy season so I am hoping the weather is ok.  We are planning to go the week of Aug 12th.

Any other tips for travel to the beaches in FL?  We are going to Captiva Island.  I am sure to bring lots of sunscreen and it sounds like we'll need bug repellant?  I read somewhere there is a lot of mosquitos and gnats?

  • I've been to florida in august in the past and it was very humid and there was always a pop up shower in the afternoon. Good luck if you decide to go!

Hi, live here.  It's hotter than Hades with humidity feeling around 150% this morning in central Florida.  LOL  It's times like this when I remind myself that I hate 4 months of winter much more and can take a couple months of sweating as soon as I open the door.

This is hurricane / rainy season, so it's totally common to have mid-afternoon rain showers that will blow through in a matter of minutes and go back to sunny for the rest of the day.  It's all good, though:)  They don't last long.

Remember, you will have a sea breeze so it won't feel as disgusting outside.  Enjoy your time here and definitely have the following with you: bug spray (evenings), sunscreen, and water.

  • We brought our son to Walt Disney World for his golden birthday on August 4. We stayed with my inlaws who happened to live one hour away from the park.

The weather was dreadful. The humidity was so high even my hair was sweating.

Good luck. I hope to never go south in the summer again.

  • We just got back from Captiva a few weeks ago.  It was pretty hot while we were there, but we live in the South so we're used to hot summers.  It did rain almost every day but it was usually just a short shower in the afternoon.  It didn't ruin any plans or anything.  There is a bug there that the locals call "no-see-ums" that are so tiny you can't see them, you can just feel them biting you, so definitely bug spray for the evenings.
