Caribbean in Dec recs please
I'm planning a family vaca for Dec. It will be my H, 1 yr old daughter, and I. We want to go somewhere in the Caribbean that isn't a super long flight from Chicago. Definitely needs to be family friendly and not crazy expensive to stay beachfront in a 2 bed. Any suggestions?
Re: Caribbean in Dec recs please
What time in dec? What do up mean by not a long flight or expensive? Those are so general actual time and cost would help.
Dh and I are in cancun/Rm every first 2 weeks of dec. weathers great, no holiday crowds etcc.
We're planning on going Dec 7-14 to avoid the holiday up charges. We'd like to keep accommodations under 2k for the week. We are flying out of Chicago and want to keep the flight less than 5 hours. Our daughter is a busy body so keeping her entertained during a long flight could be challenging
Has anyone been to Puerto Rico?
I've done a Carib cruise that time of year exactly. We cruised out of PR which was lovely. We, too, were looking for a short flight (from Mpls), and PR was a two leg flight at about 5 hrs. It would be a really nice place to visit for a week, even with a baby. There's lots of familier things about PR (shopping, etc), but also so much culture. We stayed at the La Concha hotel on Condado and omg.. it was beautiful.. And only $100 (bidding) on priceline!
That said- when we went on our HM we also were set on finding a warm-weather destination with the shortest flight. We ended up in Playa Del Carmen. It was really nice. We'd love to go back again and skip the big adult AI and just rent a condo in PDC. It was a very clean, international type of town. Touristy, but upscale in most areas.
Otherwise I think the runner-up was going to be Aruba for cost/length of flight. On our cruise we went to lots of great little islands like St Lucia and St Martin but getting there via flight takes forever and costs a fortune.
If it were me- between PDC and PR it would be a tough call. I'd probably lean towards PR with a 1 year old.
