Signed up for my 1st 1/2 marathon!!

I'm excited! I'll be running in the Virginia Beach Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon during Labor Day weekend.  Hopefully my hard work pays off on race day!

Re: Signed up for my 1st 1/2 marathon!!

  • Congrats! Half marathons are definitely the BEST distance in my opinion. ;) I've been on a running hiatus for the last year, but before that I've ran 5 halfs and 2 full marathons. Halfs are definitely my favorite, mostly because you don't completely destroy your body doing them the way a full does. Plus you can actually put some speed in there and I definitely couldn't do that with a full marathon.

    Have fun!

  • I am also registered to run my first half marathon. Mine is 9/15. I've been running some since college but until recently, didn't run much more than 2 miles (unless it was a 5k). I've been training since May. Yours is coming close - how is your training going? I am loosely following the Hal Higdon training program and this week I'm running 5 miles on Monday, 5 on Wednesday and 11 on Saturday. Definitely my hardest week so far. Oh and it's hard to train in the summer heat!

  • Congrats! I love the rock and roll 1/2 marathons in Seattle. They are super fun, lots of energy!

  • Oh gosh! Good luck and congrats :) I've never been a distance runner, so the idea of marathon anything freaks me out. But I've always one of the marathon shirts (which, you should totally get because they're great):

  • My mom, sister and I have been doing the Disneyland Half marathons for the last few years.  If the distance idea is daunting, finding a race that is SUPER shiny and distracting is a great way to pass the miles =D

Good luck on the 9/15 half!  Rock it out! =D

I've been doing the Disneyland Half for the past few years, too!
OP, I'm sure this won't be your last race! They're addicting! :)
