Sinus rinse...

I'm allergic to...well, everything. My husband told me his boss uses a sinus rinse and that I should give it a try. I did, I threw up, it was an awful experience. I hate mucus, I especially hate salty water dripping down my throat causing me to gag. Does anyone know if these nasal cleanses get easier and better yet if they actually work?

 Thanks!

Re: Sinus rinse...

  • Hi there,

I'm not a practicing doctor since I became a stay-at-home-mom, but I did go to medical school!  And I will say, YES.  The sinus rinse is one of the best things you can do for respiratory allergies.  As opposed to taking medications that try to reverse the allergic reaction of your body, using a sinus rinse helps to actually remove the cause of the problem from your body.  The sinus rinse is also great to use when you have a cold or any upper respiratory infection.  I was allergic to something that grew near my medical school, but I didn't want to take allergy meds because they were too sedating and I couldn't study.  So I used a sinus rinse up to five times a day and that did the trick for me.

As for the vomiting- that most likely happened because too much salt water went down your throat.  One thing you can try that can help prevent that from happening is make sure that you breathe constantly through your mouth while you are doing the rinse.

I hope that helps and it gets easier for you!

  • I expected this feel like water going up my nose when I jump in a swimming pool

Thank you very much for the reply. I used the sinus rinse again last night and I was delightfully surprised. This time there was no gagging reflex and only a very slight amount went into my mouth. The first time I used it, I really didn't feel any better. After doing it for the second time I can say that I feel MUCH better. I am really excited about this new product because it could very well change my life. I don't think I sneezed once today! Trust me, THAT is a miracle!

  • I'm so glad it worked better for you this time!  I think many people get nervous the first time and end up swallowing more than normal.  It is pretty weird to shoot salt water up your nose and have it come out the other side.  But it works so well!

I would recommend taking it with you any time you travel.  I don't know about you, but airplane air really irritates my nose and gets me sneezing.  I always pack it in my suitcase with a few packets when I travel now.

Great advice! Yes, airplane air is very irritating, I also will need it when I go on my trips up to the mountains (dry air= irritated nose!). Thanks again for your help.
