How do you keep important papers organized? I really need a filing cabinet, but I don't really want a filing cabinet. What works for you?

I have one of those big accordion file things. It has a bunch of seperate categories and is pretty big. It has worked pretty good so far.

I have our important documents in a firebox (birth cert, marriage liscense, passports, car titles, etc).  It's sorted in something like this:

 I used to keep everything in hanging file folders and in something like this:

I really need to go through it and start using it again.

So I have a firebox for that stuff, but where do you keep these hanging files? In my old house I had a hallway closet that worked, but now I feel like I wouldn't know where to keep this- haha.

For the hanging files, it has to be easily accessible or I won't use it. Right now it's in our dining room... Still wrapped in plastic from moving 2 years ago - Opps. 

 

I want that box I pasted the link to and set it under my desk... Where do you do bills and go through mail?

My mom made me a Vital Statisics binder with thick plastic folders inside and everything is labeled for each of the three of us. Marriage certificate, birth certificates, passports, home owners insurence, car insurence, copies of medical insurence cards, vet info, mortage info, warrenty info for my jewery and major appliances, bank accounts and extra checks, and Chase's dads death certificates and all his paperwork. So if anything ever happens to me, Chris knows exactly where to get any info he would need for our lives.

Of course after our house was broken into, that book is now hidden.

No help here either.  We have file drawers that are part of DH's desk.

I have a filing cabinet. I don't love it, but it works well. it was hidden in a closet until I moved it to the basement last weekend.

Thanks ladies. Mana, I ordered that black filing box. I don't know where I'm going to keep it, but I figure it's pretty portable so it won't really matter.

Haha i'm hoping to get it us for the current year stuff, and store the old stuff in the big one in the basement.
