"spotty" foundation?

Hey ladies,

I'm a Nestie from way back (years ago) and need advice on a make up problem.

My foundation never stays on my nose, ending up uneven & spotty. The best way I can describe it is that is seems to 'slide' off or something. This is the case regardless of what primer, foundation (other than powder, which I don't use all the time) or BB cream I'm using. It really doesn't even matter whether I'm wearing primer as it happens with or without.

My evening regimen is to oil-cleanse, followed by a rose water toner & vitamin C moisturizer, with an occasional sugar scrub exfoliation. Mornings are nothing more than rinsing my face with warm water and patting it dry. The rest of my skin is exactly how I want it, but my nose is apparently still oily yet flaky/dry at the same time (yeah, I know). It's almost as if it's immune to my skin care routine.

Anyway, I am not sure what is causing this or how to remedy it, but it's embarrassing and frustrating. Help me, please. :(

Re: "spotty" foundation?

  • Does it just come off or does it get greasy?  You could also try a mattifying product.  PUR minerals makes a product that is supposed to help control oil - it's not necessarily a primer, but it is similar.

My only other thought is to try applying a loose powder foundation (like Bare Minerals) but with a concealer brush.  I use Bare Minerals mainly to conceal, and I usually cover all of my nose with it and then apply my regular powder foundation on top.  It works well for me, so it might be work a try for you.  I'm also in the same boat in that I have areas on my face that get dry, but I also am acne-prone and touch up my makeup a few times a day because it gets a little oily.

  • MAC Matte. It's my lifesaver.  I put in on my nose, under my foundation.  I'll reapply throughout the day, as needed.

  • i have a knock-off clarisonic brush (actual name is sirius skinsonic) that i use in the morning (without cleanser, just water) over areas that tend to be flaky/oily (i know exactly what you mean by that!)  -- like my nose, and in between my eyebrows, and my chin... then i do a little extra moisturizer on those areas before i do my makeup. it has helped a TON. good luck!
  • Yes, a mattifying powder paired with a good primer should do the trick. It sounds like you've got some oil production going on there. What do you use to wash your face, if you don't mind me asking?
