How do u display and/or keep photos?

i'm terrible with interior decorating so i was just wondering how others display family photos.  i have a million photos but i'm never sure how to display them so i only have a few frames on the mantles and 1 large pic frame with several slots for pics (collage style).  and that's it...

also, anyone have a good 'system' for storing family photos?  my current system is just to keep them electronic on the computer and back them up onto an external hard drive and then once a year make a family photo book with my favorite photos.  seems better than printing out all of those pics (takes up so much room) and better than just keeping them all electronic but it is a lot of work to make the album.....

  • I store them pretty much like you do. I wish I printed more pictures though...I used to scrapbook but it's time consuming and I got so far behind that I pretty much gave it up. I would like to start doing a photo book each year. In terms of displaying, I have 3 8x10s on top of our tv stand (Current family picture, our wedding pic, and a current pic of the girls) . We also just recreated this http://pinterest.com/pin/136445063682326532/ over the fire place. I also have 3 shelves that we had pictures on at the old house. Once I figure out where to hang them, I'm going to do something like this http://pinterest.com/pin/136445063683381746/

  • I have a collage over a table in the foyer, I think it's about 8 photos, a mix of 8x10, 5x7 and 4x6.  I have two 10x13 pictures in the playroom, that's where I display the most recent pictures of the kids (we get them taken somewhere once/year)  In our living room, I have a big (not sure how big, 16x20 maybe?) picture of the kids together that hangs behind the couch.  Those are the big displays, aside from that, I just have picture frames scattered on surfaces throughout the house.

as far as storing, I'm terrible.  they're all uploaded onto snapfish, and I did a first year album for each of the kids, but that's it.  I dont' keep up with it, even though I'd like to.

  • On my computer, backed up on CD and stored on Flickr. I have very few displayed in the house... like maybe 6 in the family room.  all smaller sized prints on the book case/tv stand and end tables. so I have no help to offer. But you are not alone!
  • We have a few frames around the house (most with outdated pictures, there are really only two bigger frames that I update pictures for regularly).  As for storing, they are all stored on my laptop/flashdrive/shutterfly...and let's not forget FB!    I have one album made of Mason's 1st year and that's it.  I used to feel guilty about this, but now I am over it.
  • I'm like everyone else.  Mostly they're on our computer and shutterfly.  I keep 6 frames in different sizes on our sofa table in the living room.  And we have 2 8x10 frames hanging up with the kids yearly picture.  I used to scrapbook, too. Noah has a great 1st year album, and part of his toddler years.  Brody's first year isn't complete yet.   I have made a couple photobooks, but nothing really current.
  • I would love to do something like my parents did. My mom is a total picture whore which has totally rubbed off on me and drives my husband insane (we have frames everywhere).  On one wall in their living room my dad hung three floating shelves that run the length of the wall (probably 4 feet each) and my mom displays all of her pictures there, similar to lala's pin but all the way across. She is gradually moving to all silver frames although not necessarily matching.

I believe that they are these from Lowes but longer, they match their woodwork and mantel.

As for the rest of my pictures, they are either on my camera still, on FB, on my laptop if they are current. And since I am old, I have a ton of pictures that are in boxes. I need to scan them into my computer someday. Heck, my wedding pictures aren't digital!
