my dog just bit me through my thumb nail
she thought it was the raw hide bone when we were playing...
blood everywhere... i was screaming and crying... couldn't get a grip... scared the shit out of my daughter... it was hysteria in here!! My thumb is on fire right now and already black. I will probably lose this *** nail. I'm so upset... and it hurt so bad!
i'm ready to lose my shit.
Re: my dog just bit me through my thumb nail
Missy! Do something about this dog! You're going insane!
How deep is the puncture wound? Don't those require special medical attention?
The pup should really know the difference between your hands and toys and take great care to avoid your hands at all costs. This dog needs formal training Missy.
I'm sorry about your thumb.
she never bites intentionally anymore. i swear! I was grabbing the small bone out of her mouth and playing rough on the floor with her. she went to grab the bone and my thumb was on it still.
bit down through my nail and into the nail bed. I honestly am wondering if this does need medical attention? my thumb is killing me and the whole thing is hot. this is GD lovely.
What?
I'm sorry, but...I don't care if it was an accident. A dog that bites me and draws blood would be euthanaized, especially with a child in the house. At least, see a behaviorist to see if there is anything to do with her, but I personally wouldn't want to take any chance. And I'm a huge animal lover. But biting is my deal breaker.
Ouch!!!!
* laptopdancer gives the sideye to everyone being a biatch about the dog's training
I'd see a doc if you can.
dog's training is always being addressed, thank you very much to everyone concerend. BUT...
i presume the next nest rumor is going to be that i have a vicious animal near my toddler and i don't do anything about it.
This was an accident. I hear you STellas, i do.
I would call the dr. and just see what they say about it. One time our cat bit my dad's hand (through the meaty part between the thumb and pointer finger) and the next day his hand was completely swollen and heavily infected. His hand looked like you had blown air into a rubber glove. It was gross and can be really dangerous.
HTH.
Euthanized? Dogs need training, and you have to be prepared for a possible bite if they're riled up. ?Dogs are not people and expecting completely docile, in-the-box behavior out of them or death is pretty ridiculous, imo.
That sounds good Missy. I don't think your pup is vicious or anything.
I know dogs needs training, I'm not a complete retard. But biting to the point of losing a nail is not typical dog behavior imo.
After reading the updates, I can see that maybe it was really an accident and this dog won't bite again. Missy, sorry, if you say your dog isn't vicious, you know her a lot better than we do. I replied based on your OP...
EDIT: maybe I read too quickly. I am really not one to suggest getting rid of dogs, but your post scared me. Sorry againOh I have had that happen before. Hurt like mfing hell.
What steps are you taking?
Starting her off right, lol!
Missy- she's still a puppy right?
Does she get to socialize with other dogs sometimes? That would really help to teach her bite inhibition.
Also, it is not the best idea to get down on the floor and play rough with a dog, especially when there are high value treats like rawhides involved. I would play tug with her with a rope toy only, and make sure you always win. Teach her 'drop it', and make her sit before you give her anything.
I imagine that life must be pretty busy with a toddler and a puppy. There is a method called NILIF that is invaluable for teaching your dog who is in charge. It's really, really simple.

Hope the thumb feels better soon.
