Moms: How do you keep your baby warm at night?

With the really cold weather coming in, I just wonder what you all do? Currently we keep Austin in a long sleeve onesie, sleeper and sleep sack - but often on cold nights when I go to nurse him, his hands are cold...and his room is always cold (we plan on switching his room soon, since 1/2 of his room is the roof to our Cape), plus we keep his door closed because our cat makes a lot of noise, as do we if we are still up....Tom and I are always bundled under our comforter and I just worry so badly about him all alone in his room getting chilly....I also don't want to make him too hot, either....I've contemplated getting some thermal underwear (union suits) to put under his sleepers instead of just a long sleeve onesie....ideas? suggestions? what do you do? TIA!

Re: Moms: How do you keep your baby warm at night?

  • I wish I could provide some insight here- but all the heat in our house seems to travel to the top floor (where the bedrooms are)! GL!
  • Fleece jammies and a blanket!
  • we put dd in fleece pj's with a sleep sac and 2 blankets
  • Doesn't seem to be a problem.  Alyssa sleeps in a sleeper, in her crib, on her back, and isn't cold.  If we get to a point where I think she is cold, I guess I'll talk to my husband and we can discuss putting her in a sleep sack.  But babies shouldn't be too warm when they sleep and they shouldn't be all covered up like that.  That is what our pediatrician told us.
  • I have sleep sacks for Molly and I'm planning on using them if I feel like the temperature seems too cold. Not entirely positive it will be a problem when we are upstairs, but definitely, my bottom floor just can't keep heat down there. I know I'll be using them then.
  • Kaelyn wears a sleep gown and a sleep sack or she wears a onesie and footed pjs...sometimes her hands a cold, but her core is always nice and warm when she gets up in the morning.  You don't want to overheat them at  night.

  • We have a small thermometer that we leave in her room and make sure that it's kept at about 65-67.  Her room runs 2 degrees cooler than the rest of the upstairs (we have two heat zones, so that helps a little bit).  Anyway, we put her in a long sleeve onesie and a thick blanket sleeper (thicker than the Carter's ones. Starting Out makes nice thick ones). That usually does the trick.  On the nights that those are dirty, we put her in a onesie, terry cloth sleeper and a fleece Carter's sleep sack (the kind with sleeves).  I found that socks helped a lot too on the nights before we turned the heat on/when the cool weather seemed freezing, compared to normal temperatures.
  • We have this same problem.  Upstairs in our home can get cold.  The temp usually sits around 60-65 degress.  About a half hour before Brianna's bedtime I turn the heat up to 70 and then it gets turned back down once I go to bed.  But, I usually dress Brianna in a onesie and footed fleece pjs.  And she usually has two blankets on her.  I try to bundle her up.. thinking that if she is hot she can always kick her blankets off... I'd rather her be hot, then cold because I"m not sure she knows enough to pull the blankets up if she is cold.  Keep in mind Brianna is 22 months old... alot older than Austin.  When Brianna was Austins age I dressed her the same and also put her in a sleep sack... which she hated.. but it worked.  GL!!
