urgent: chihuahua needs help (domestic situation)

I know this is asking a lot, but my MIL called me about a woman from her church. She went to a shelter today and realized that they don't allow dogs -  she's devastated and is afraid the husband could do something to the dog (he's a drinker).

She doesn't know how long she will be at the shelter, but she wants to get somewhere stable so she can have the chi again.

The dog hasn't been around other dogs and isn't a huge fan of little kids (or people in general). She also has the tiny dog attitude. I guess in new places she pretty much just stays in her crate :(

I know it's asking a lot, especially for a stranger, but if you think you could open up your home to a chi for awhile, I know this woman would REALLY appreciate it.

Re: urgent: chihuahua needs help (domestic situation)

  • Poor little dog- I would totally watch him, but we have two dogs and a 2-year old so it sounds like he would be a bit overwhelmed at our house.  Good luck finding him a place- I see your postings on here a lot and am inspired by your enthusiasm to help animals!
  • does it like other dogs do we know? i have two of my own...but willing to consider
  • Megan, I don't know -- it sounds like it's unsocialized with other dogs, which could mean trouble if your dogs give it a warning and the chi doesn't "understand." Shoot me an email and I will try to find out more and get back to you.

  • Do you know if she gets along well with other Chi's?  I have a friend who has a blue chi and she occasionally takes in fosters.  I have two crazy dogs of mine own or I would consider it =)  Let me know!
