I need to have a skin graft on my gums :o(

So I've been having this problem with receeding gum lines on my two bottom front teeth, and it's gotten so bad, that my two teeth are a little loose, which scares the friggen crap out of me!!!!! So I have to have a skin graft done to repair the damage, and needless to say, I'm so nervous & anxious about it!  I'm such a chicken when it comes the dentist, that I started crying in his office when he was examining my teeth!  Poor guy probably thought I was crazy LOL! I go in next Tuesday, so I have 6 more days of freaking out to do! Anyone have this done?? I need some reassurance!!

Re: I need to have a skin graft on my gums :o(

  • My mom works for a periodontist and this is a very common procedure for them, dont worry!!!  (easier said than done Im sure!)

    Good luck!

  • I dind't have this procedure, but a long time ago I had skin from my gums removed. I don't remember it being too bad and think I only needed to take tyelnol for the pain, even though they gave me vicodin.

    Good luck :)

  • I haven't had this done, but have been struggling with periodontal problems for a long time and will probably have to have this done eventually. Try to relax! I know it seems  scary but it is a pretty commom procedure. I hope it fixes your problem and that you have healthy gums again soon.
  • Focus on how much better it will be after you get it done! It will be a PITA but totally worth it!
  • My sister had this procedure done.  I remember her being in some pain but it worked and that is the important thing - a day of hurting is worth it compared to losing your teeth!  Plus, you have had a baby and if you got through that you can most certainly get through this!  Good luck!
  • At my last dental appointment (in Oct) my dentist told me the same thing...that I needed to get a skin graft on my gums to fix my receeding gum line on my top right teeth. Let me know how it goes. I'm just as chicken as you are so I'm avoiding it. At least (for now), my teeth aren't loose.
