WWYD? Re: Insurance

DH found out that he will only have his job for 30 more days. Since he was an independent contractor we have been paying our insurance ourselves. Well I called yesterday to clarify something and the rep said that she could lower my bill by $100/ month. The catch is I would not have any maternity coverage. This is fine with me for two reasons. 1. I don't plan on having anymore children anytime soon. 2. I will be starting a new job at the beginning of the year that will have full benefits. This means we will be changing our insurance anyway.

Do you think I should change my coverage to save the money for a few months. $100/month could really come in handy with Dh not working.

Re: WWYD? Re: Insurance

  • Is your alternative: no insurance?  In that case, I would make the change.  It's better to have some type of insurance than none.  After all, you'll get a new job in a couple of months.
  • No matter what we will keep our insurance. It would be nice to just save $100.

  • from the sounds of it, change the coverage, save the $100 and sign up for full benefits (or whatever you decide) when you are eligible with the new job next year.  I could  be wrong, but it doesn't sound like you'll be losing benefits if you opt out of the ML and save the $$$, right?

  • Oh, another few thoughts...between now and when you can sign up with your new job...I'm thinking that you need to make sure that Lil Tony is covered at the very least, since he is the one making frequent "well-baby" check ups.  I would anticipate that you and DH are ok, or UTD, on your regular doc stuff.  Annual OB related appts...maybe even those can wait until after you're signed up with the new insurance.

Just throwing out some thoughts...hopefully I haven't confused the issue(s).

  • yes, i would do this. ?as long as the kids have coverage, why not?
