Saturn of Gresham - not a good experience, will not do business with again and we do not recommend them.
Re: Dealership Warning!

We "bought" a new/used 2008 Nissan Versa from them 11/8/08. After one loan didn't go through (11/14/08) because we have no credit (we pay cash for everything-everything.), and the second one didn't go through (11/17/08)with a co-signer, we asked to get our trade in back and give them the Nissan. We figured that now wasn't the time for us to buy a car. No big deal. After a series of back & forth calls on the 18th I told them we were coming in to ge the truck back since we weren't approved for a loan. The guy on the phone told me the finance manager had to be in the office to give us the keys back. Which in my opinion seems like a honkofcrap. So I drove by the dealership Tuesday night after class to verify the truck was still in their possession and it was. Wednesday 11/19/08 my husband and my father in law go to give the car back and get the truck and they tell us they my husband and his father in law that they don't have the keys and the keys are in Vancouver. So, my FIL & DH left... They just left!!! Then, later on last night we get a call from the dealership stating they found a bank that could do it at a certain % for $X/month. My husband told them, "no, this obviously isn't meant to be, we'll just come get the truck and we'll establish credit another way. We do not want this car or the payments you keep offering."
This brings me to today....
My husband called them to tell them he would be over after 2pm when he gets off work to get the truck & the keys. The dealer says, you can't it's a done deal, you bought the car. You're not getting the truck back...
SO
Needless to say we are FURIOUS. We tried to get our truck back and they kept putting it off with excuses. Now, we are stuck with a loan from a bank that we know NOTHING of...
AND the finance manager is a jerk to women.
I am so mad. I feel duped.
Sorry that you had a bad experience, but this could/does happen at ANY dealership. DH is in the car business, and I worked for several years in auto financing.
When you sign the contract and drive your car off the lot, you are committed to your new car. there is no "return policy". My advice, next time go to a local credit union (I swear by OnPoint, they are amazing) and get pre-approved for an auto loan. You will get a better rate that way, even if you have "no credit" or "bad credit" they will still work with you.
The only person that has the ability to "unwind" a deal is the Finance Manager, that's why he had to be there to give you your keys back.
Really, if they were able to get you a loan, that's a good sign. Because (and i mean no offense at all by this) if you couldn't get a loan even WITH a cosigner, there has to be something terribly iffy on your credit report. I'm guessing you and your DH both work and make more than minimum wage? It really shouldn't have been that hard to get you guys a loan, unless you have a recent BK or a repo or something like that.
If you feel comfortable doing it, you can post the name of the bank, and i can tell you if I've heard of them or not. United Finance and Reliable Credit are two that are local, that help people with "less than stellar" credit, and they are both good, normal banks.
Still, try and go to OnPoint and see if you can refi your loan with them. They usually have 5% loans, and your vehicle would qualify. Years ago I bought a car at 17.99% interest, because I dind't know that I was gettign ripped off, and 5 months later waled into OnPoint and they refi'd it to 4.7% instead. All I had to do was transfer my bank account to them. Now we have our mortgage, car, and boat loan through them, they are great and always offer good rates.

I agree with Jen. This could happen at any dealership. Did you drive the car off the lot before signing paperwork for the exact loan you were getting or did they just make you think they had a loan covered for you?
Even though you decided it wasn't a good time to buy a car, having this payment and establishing credit will be a good thing. Paying cash for everything and not having any type of credit established is just as bad as having horrible credit and by the time you are old enough to get married, you should be thinking about building up your credit for future big purchases.....car, house, ect. It's totally worth having a credit card that you make purchases with throughout the month to build a good credit score and then you can still pay it off at the end of the month. My parents had me do this as a teenager. Sign up for something with rewards and get a little something back too. We have an Amtrak points card that pays for all of my step son's weekend visits with us.
Update:
We did get approved last week for a loan 4.99% interest at Advantis Credit Union? Our huge problemo was the "insufficient credit history." We got the car we want at an interest rate better than they "quoted" us at and got lower payments. I think that the fact that both of us were under the weather last week, we were a little more...sensitive. Regardless, Mr. Finance Manager at this location was a *** to me and the way he spoke to me... "Listen here Missy...." crap that he was pulling when I asked a ligit question (Why'd you send him home with a car if you hadn't approved us for a loan). He needs to go to people school and work on his skills. jerk.
Yay for car payments and maybe a house someday...
That's great that you got such a decent rate on your loan, congrats! Credit unions are ALWAYS the way to go, unless you can get 0% from the manufacturer (which hardly anybody can...), so yay for you guys!!
I loooved Dreams, it was AMAZING. Literally the perfect vacation, it was great for a 3 year anniversary trip!
