thanksgiving

so it's a week away for us americans. what are everyone's plans?

we're going to c's parents' on friday and staying the night. we'll be having our big meal on saturday. we're also hoping to get some time in with her best friend while we're in town. we haven't made definite plans with my parents. christmas is my family's big holiday, and we rarely even do that on the actual day.

Re: thanksgiving

  • I get on a plane back to my parents place in Minnesota tomorrow morning. I also am going to tell them they are gonna be grandparents. I am so excited for my dads cooking. This will be my first Thanksgiving home in 5 years.

  • We stay home (we don't travel for any of the holidays - too crazy!)  L will probably make a turkey breast (no need for a whole turkey for 2 adults and 2 picky toddlers!), cranberry chutney, sweet potato fries, and carrot cake cupcakes for dessert.  I have no idea what we'll do. We've invited a friend over - but he is not reliable at best - we may go over to our friend's parents house in the afternoon - or we may go into DC (the Smithsonian Museums are open.)  And I am took off that Friday. Whoooo hooooo!

  • We are going up to the family farm in VT.  MY uncle aunt and cousin live there still.  With the Aunts Uncles, Cousins, 2nd cousins, 3rd cousins and various extra people (boy friends, baby mamas and babies) it will be about 20 people.  It is always interesting but I generally like most of my family.  It could be hard since it is only the 2nd Thanksgiving S will be joining us (we switch off each year) and some of the VT "couldn't" make it to the wedding.  We will see how it goes.  I am very excited about stopping off in Woodstock for the night on Wednesday and staying at a b&b.  That should be nice and relaxing and they have an awesome breakfast so I can load up on food so I am not super hungry by the time we eat at 4.  Also I am looking forward to checking out the art galleries and the antique jewlery store (where we found my engagment ring).  We are also looking forward to a pet free weekend and hopefully squeezing in our second iui.

  • I have to work the day before and the day after Thanksgiving, so no travel for us this year. We'll probably help with the morning service our church is having, then stay for the group meal afterwards. Either that or get Boston Market to-go food the day before, stay in all day Thanksgiving day, and eat reheated chicken and sweet potatoes in bed while watching football (which sounds great to me right now-- I'm exhausted).

  • We spend every holiday at my Aunt's house. I do all the baking and love it! This year S's mom has invited us to an early meal with her brother. Miracle indeed! So, two dinners for us this year.
  • We're going to my parents in NJ. C's parents are actually flying out to visit her sister in Brooklyn, so they're going to meet us Thurs afternoon for dinner.
  • We are driving allll the way to Harrisburg, PA to be with C's family.  Her parents are having all of her dad's side of the fam over - it's a lot of people we love all in one place!  Should be lots of fun, which is good because that will help make up for all the time in the car!

  • We're flying to Atlanta to celebrate with Jen's mom and stepdad, two sisters, bro-in-law, and newish nephew (he was born this summer). We spend Thanksgivings with her family (parents are divorced, so we switch off each year) and Christmas with my family. This has worked out very well for us - and I am so glad that she doesn't care too much about Christmas b/c I would be super sad to miss Christmas with my parents :)

  • Well T's boys will be gone all next week visiting their dads family so it will just be the two of us, which sounds pretty good to me. T will still make a feast and we have invited all of our friends who can't make it home to be with their families to join us for dinner. Should be an interesting turn out.
  • We're having a few friends over for dinner and maybe an air hockey tournament.  K is deep frying turkey and I'm in charge of baking.  It won't be super fancy, but it will be nice to have people over.  We haven't had a dinner party in forever.
