I do all the holiday baking in our family. I always make from scratch pies for Thanksgiving. I also always make way too many. It's such a waste!
I need to edit my dessert list and have just the right balance of pies and other sweets. I am terrible at cuttting back though.
What are your very favorite pies and desserts?
Re: What Should I bake?
oh, my hands-down favorite is apple pie made with granny smiths. i like to make butterscotch or caramel and put some in the pie. i save the rest to drizzle over the slices with some vanilla bean ice cream. i'm a top crust girl, not a big fan of crumb toppings. i also really like pecan pie.
pumpkin rolls with cream cheese icing are really good at thanksgiving. that would be a good non-pie dessert and might be a nice variation from pumpkin pie (although those are always good).
L makes an INCREDIBLE carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Best I've ever had. I love Russian tea cakes (or wedding cookies), chocolate french silk pie, peppermint brownies with chocolate chunks in them, and lemon squares, and chocolate cake with chocolate ganache.
Mmmm.....now I am hungry.
I"m also a big pie baker and my family loves all different kinds (nana loves pecan, dad is a pumpkin guy, mom likes apple caramel, ect ect) so what i do is make mini pies (or pielettes as we like to call them
- they are perfect for a variety but eliminate the left overs! plus the small size makes them a bit of a novelty

**CT**- I have been toying with doing mini's this year too! Easier to transport, people eat more because they feel less guilty and the fruit ones won't ooze all over.
I have been on the fence about this but now I think I will go ahead and do mini's and be in good company!
Enjoy the rest of your trip :-)
