I'm back!

I had to go to Gatlinburg until yesterday for work...never been to Gatlinburg...I was a little disappointed...I guess I didn't expect the mountains to be so touristy...a few people I was there with said the Highlands were much better so I think I will go there the next time. We did stop on the way back and eat at this great place called The Dillard House in N. Georgia. It was SOOOO good!!!!

Re: I'm back!

  • Welcome back!  I actually love Gatlinburg, and yes it is VERY touristy so I can imagine if you didn't expect it to be that you would be dissappointed.  DH has never been and I've always wanted us to go.  And the only time of year I've ever been is during the summer so I would love to go up there in the fall.  Maybe one of these days...
    Siggy coming soon....
  • The colors were AMAZING going through the mountains b/n Cherokee and Gatlinburg and it SNOWED!!! So that was really cool...I think I was just surprised by things like the Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Gatliburg. I don't know...there were some things that just didn't seem to fit.
  • I hate how touristy it has gotten up there too!!!!  However the scenery is beautiful!  I am glad you are back

I didn't really love Gatlinburg myself...or Pigeon Forge. I loved all of the things outside both areas. But the cities themselves reminded me of the strip at Panama City during Spring Break... LOL

  • We went a few years ago and it was a bit much for us...we did love the drive through Pigeon Forge though. I bet the colors were really beautiful.
  • yeah, I love our mountain house MUCH better than Gatlinburg, but it all depends on what you like.

We rent out our mountain house if anyone is ever interested - it's in Blairsville, GA and it's only about 3-3.5 hrs from AU.
