Any North Haven or Hamden, CT nesties?
Hi girls! I'm a Southern California nestie and was wondering if you could help me out. My husband might be taking a job in North Haven, CT which is a huge move for us. The company is flying us out in a few weeks to check it out. I have been looking online for places to live and we think we've found a place nearby in Hamden, CT that looks nice. If you are familiar with Hamden or North Haven, can you tell me if they are nice areas or any suggestions you have?
Thanks!
Re: Any North Haven or Hamden, CT nesties?
Hi there!
North Haven is my home town! I think you will really like the area! I guess I'm partial to North Haven, my family is there and that's where DH and I plan to move back to in a few years. Great school system, great services in town, good retail areas, lots of activities through the Park & Rec for families, etc. Just built a new high school about 3 years ago and all the elementary schools have been redone recently. Taxes are a little high, but I think the town services make up for it a little.
Hmmm...what do I know about Hamden. Also a very nice town, some parts are much nicer than others. Home styles/prices are probably pretty comparable to North Haven. Lots of retail along Rt. 10, Quinnipiac University is also in town, right next to Sleeping Giant state park. I can't speak to the school systems, other than to say that the high school is HUGE, graduating class sizes here are bigger than North Haven.
I don't think you can go wrong either way, but like I said, I'm partial to North Haven. Let me know if you have any specific questions after you come visit, I'll answer if I can.
Hope everything works out for you!
Hello,
I live in North Haven , we moved here about 3 years ago and LOVE it. North Haven is one of CT's top rated towns for their school system.
Taxes are lower than Hamden (NH mill rate is 23 and Hamden is 29) and I believe Hamden does not offer as many services (garbage collection, etc.)
If you like more of a city/urban town than Hamden might be your choice....NH is more of a "homey" kind of town with all the conveniences of a city...as far as shopping and activities. I live right of Route 5 which is the "main drag" and I can get to pretty much any store imaginable within 15-20 minutes.
I guess you can tell I am quite an advocate for North Haven, especially since I did NOT want to move here when we were looking for houses and now I could not imagine living anywhere else. I was from a VERY rural town and NH was an easy transition into a more "up to date" town.
If you like what I had to offer...feel free to page me (I am always on The Bumps, 2nd Trimester Board, (Due in April!) We ended up looking at a LOT of houses in NH and I know a few of the areas pretty well by now and I would be happy to give you any other tips or help you might need!
GOOD LUCK!
I live in Hamden. You can email me the address and I can tell you yay or nay. Like Gilmore said, there are nicer areas and not nice areas. My email is jennyotis@gmail.com
Good Luck!
I live in Branford- and I just wanted to mention Branford / Guilford because they are the cutest towns! They have a real community feel and the public schools re good- especially in Guilford.
Hamden has some cute areas as well- but I just love being on the shoreline. I don't know much about North Haven.
I've lived in Hamden for the past 2+ years, we live in the Mt. Carmel area. We love it! However, DH just took a job in RI so we are selling our house. It goes on the market about the 1st of January. If you're looking for something, let me know.
