What are your Thanksgiving plans?

We are hosting dinner at our house.  My parents are coming to visit and my cousin, his wife, and their little girl are coming over too.  I've organized everything that needs to be done into an excel spreadsheet.  One tab for the menu, one for the grocery list, then a tab for Monday, Tuesday, and Wed, with the prep work I will do on those days, and then Thursday's tab starts at 8:00 am and is detailed in 15 minute increments.

I've never hosted a major holiday dinner.  If you can tell, I'm a little stressed :)

Re: What are your Thanksgiving plans?

  • wow..the planner in me is in love with you right now!! :)  That really sounds JUST LIKE me!

We are going to NC to be with Brian's side of the family, since I get Christmas with mine. I'm looking forward to it. mainly b/c all I have to do is make a cheesecake and show up!

  • wow  you are organized!!! It will be fine, I know you will have a great time! We are going to my dad's and then to my mom's. DH and I are also working that evening at my dad's restaruant. Friday will be decoration day. I am so ready for this holiday!
  • Ooh I'm so excited for Friday, we get to decorate our new house for Christmas!!!  We have prelit wreaths for all the windows and spotlights for the yard to illuminate the house.  YAY!  We'll maybe wait till my parents are gone (Sunday?) to put up our tree.

I also bought these awesome little santa-esque jestor collars for the kitties.  They are red santa type velvet with little points all around it like a jestor collar.  They have bells on each point, and then the part that goes right around the neck has white fur-trim.  They look adorable in them, and so they'll go on as soon as we're done cleaning up Thanksgiving dinner!

  • I am up in NY for Thanksgiving, so no prep work for me.  I wouldn't even have thought of doing a spreadsheet.  You are so organized Vanessa.  I'm sure everything will be great.

  • We're going to Aiken (our hometown) and staying with my parents.  We're doing TG dinner with both of our families together.

  • We'll be in town. I think going over to my neighbors for a bit to visit with them, then just relaxing and letting the turkey take effect. Smile We're taking it easy, esp. since DH is going on a "guys weekend" Friday-Monday. My old roommate is coming down for Thursday/Friday, but it'll be me and the pups the rest of the weekend. Smile

Speaking of Friday, is anyone planning on braving the craziness of Black Friday??? If so, have fun!!! Big Smile
  • I've thought about it, but first I'd have to see what kind of sales are going on... I NEVER go BF shopping without a plan!
  • I can't take credit for the spreadsheet ordeal.  The girls on What's Cooking had a link to a blog where a lady did it... as overwhelmed as I was getting with everything that needed to be done I figured I'd give it a shot and I'm so glad I did.  I'm a list maker anyway and this way I'm pretty certain I won't forget anything :)
