For those of you hosting Thanksgiving at your house this year, what's on the menu? Are you trying any new and exciting recipes or sticking to the tried and true?
Re: Poll - Thanksgiving Food
We're only having three or four people to dinner (including DH and I!), so we're trying to keep things pretty simple. We're having chicken (since DH is a vegetarian and I don't eat much meat, we can't use up a whole turkey) with green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole.
I'm most looking forward to sweet potato pie and pecan pie. (Yes, I know that's way too much dessert for three people, but we couldn't resist having both).
Yum! I'm so looking forward to it! :-)
It's going to be sort of hard in my house this year. ?Since DH's side of the family can only have blood, it's going to make for and interesting dinner. ?I think I'll make my family just the turkey and make sure to drain it myself for DH! ?I'm excited!!!!?
Chicken for Thanksgiving? You know they make smaller turkeys or you can just buy a turkey breast. Weird.
We're going to have a great dinner. I've budgeted for the last 12 months for Thursday's meal. I want to make sure it's a good one. We're going to have turkey shaped tofu, green beans (I found an awesome deal at Albertson's when they were throwing out their old beans), bread crumbs saved from all of our sandwiches from the last 12 months and mashed potato shaped tofu. We wanted to have apple pie for dessert but I didn't budget enough. My DH was mad at me.
They might not be able to afford it. Maybe they didn't budget correctly.
we had a "Thanksgiving" dinner on sat with all our friends, since we'll all be OOT for thanksgiving visiting family...I made a pumpkin pie almost from scratch and it came out great. I used the recipe on the back of the 100% pumpkin can. the only thing not from scratch was the pie crust (Pillsbury - in the refrigerated aisle by the croissants and biscuits) . It was super easy and came out great! (just be sure to flour the pie pan before you put the crust down, but dont flour the side of the crust that touches the pie filling or the crust wont stick to the filling. GL!
We are having the usual. Turkey, whipped sweet potato bake, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, antipasto salad, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie and an apple pie. I am making baked crab rangoon for appetizers, which will be a first.
I am excited! This will be the first thanksgiving I have held since DH and I got married!!
hehe DH and I totally do that with new recipes. We have to do a "dry run" before we actually try to serve anything new to our guests.
Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Seasoned Veggies
Mac and Cheese
Sweet Potato Yumminess
Dessert, Dessert and more Dessert. I'm making PB pie, Molasses Pie and Pumpkin Roll.
We aren't hosting, but I am trying a new recipe. ?Well, new to me.?
?It's a poppy seed cake. ?My grandmother used to make it, and she gave the recipe to my mom. ?This year she gave it to me and I'm going to try making it for the in-laws. ?
Which is what I should be doing now actually....?
